Central Arkansas | I've never bought any except some hail insurance for soft red winter wheat. I've seen way too much abuse for me to want to be a part of any of it. We also spend every spare dime on irrigation. We lost lots of soybeans to flooding this year, but I knew it was possible when we planted in a flood plain. It was our first losses since 1984, but this year we got 83" of rain instead of our normal 50" (Central Arkansas).
I understand the argument that heavily subsidized premiums are a good deal. My neighbors tell me that the insurance on their flood plain soybeans isn't helping much because of late planting dates due to spring floods. My landlords take it out and have never collected one dime in losses in 27 years! And their agent bugs me for yields every year.
The Lord had been faithful to us to meet our every need. | |
