It will work better for all (including those that don’t get it) if more people get it.

In the extreme example it would become very similar to childhood vaccinations against other diseases. As long as most children get properly vaccinated those scattered few that do not are also protected.

The fly in this ointment is when the few that don’t get vaccinated aren’t scattered and some of them have some communication with outside sources of infection.

The group of unvaccinated people and some of the vaccinated with weaker immunity are only protected by lack of exposure. If there is a route of exposure, then the introduced virus circulates freely until everyone that doesn’t have very strong immunity has been infected. This includes both vaccinated and unvaccinated people.

This is nothing new. It’s old, very settled science. And it’s how the real world works.
