Yes spacing was not perfect. If there was depth issues one had wear issues with the boot and firming points. Also excess pressure for seed size caused seed bounce. I replaced the chains on the drums with bicycle type and slowed the speed to a reasonable 5 mph or so. The 7-8 mph noted on the population charts were a invitation for spacing disaster.
The row units are basically the same today. The furrow force add on that PP sells resemble the IH design.
