I'd fix up the cattle yards. Fill one pen of your own cattle, and lease the rest of the pens to your friends with cattle. Could even do a trade agreement where you trade back yardage for them fixing up the yards? That way you can learn the ropes some, but you also have a little skin in the game with owning a pen of your own. You didn't mention if you had any land or not, without that it really puts you at a competitive disadvantage in my mind. Regardless, forget the hog buildings. A local kid here built one q couple years ago, im sure he was really second guessing that decision back in April. Atleast with cattle we aren't under the thumb of the packers "quite" as bad as the vertically integrated industries like poultry and hogs. Just my .02
