Central WA
There appear to be more than enough operations which are doing just fine in our particular region. Land prices and demand have not dropped off significantly, nor have rents. Farmers operating on multi-generational histories with a significant portion of their land portfolio having been bought and paid for in the past or with unique localized marketing opportunities may be doing just fine. We are corn growers in an area where basis is typically 80 or more over Chicago, our land is family owned and largely paid for, and we add value to our corn by a local market opportunity that would not work for everyone. We are doing just fine. No MFP and ARC is not a significant factor. All Irrigated.
In some ways the phrasing of the question assumes "one size fits all" which is never true concerning a subject as large and diverse as global or even N American agriculture. Government intervention in market processes generally do more harm than good when these types of assumptions are made.....
