Nc Ks. | Same thing here. I'm about retirement age. Rent some ground, own a little. No land payment, no equipment notes. Probably spend more on repairs keeping my old stuff running then most but that wouldn't make much of a dent on a late model tractor or combine. My crops this fall will be average at best. After paying the seed, fertilizer and chemical bills there isn't a whole lot left. And I'm already getting calls from the seed salesmen wanting me to book next years seed to get the best discount. Nothing irrtates me more then those guys coming around and we haven't even got this years havesting finished. Made it through the late 70's and 80's, looks like we might be headed through it again. To the young guys I'll repeat what I said awhile back on another thread. There are easier ways to make not much money. Guys locally that made it through the 80's the best had their dad or grandpa's start to build on. Those starting from scratch had it tough and some didn't make it. Good luck to all. | |
