King City, Mo | Maybe you could break down each of your farms and see if some of them are dragging the others down.
Cash rent sucks.
Hiring the coop to spray and spread everything is expensive. A pull type sprayer behind a tractor works good and is cost effective.
Look at other options. Vrs more acres of grain crops we got into produce, popcorn and pumpkins by accident. It's way more work as there are not many air conditioned jobs doing produce but we sold more of that stuff then we did soybeans off our home place. Kids are looking to buy a new sub compact Deere so my oldest (7) can learn to drive it and they can expand more next year. If they get something new now hopefully it lasts them till they are in collage. They are 7, 3 and 9 months....
Produce isn't for everyone but maybe you like welding or wrenching or construction or electrician or plumbing or concrete work or ??? Instead of fighting to farm more acres that aren't profitable just farm the ones that are and do something else with your time that you enjoy doing and can make some money at.
The money from doing the produce is good for the boys but spending time with the boys and watching them learn a work ethic and how to work with people are worth more then what we've sold.
