Illinois-Ontario
I go across all the time (driving-personal plane) and have not had much hassle. Some border guards are nicer than others, but I would give the nod to Canada Customs as being the friendlier of the two. The crossing people have a lot of your history on the computer at their finger tips, they have asked me questions pertaining to answers I had given in previous crossings, once at a check point I normally would not use. Take off the dark glasses, open up the back window as you drive up to the check point, answer the questions with no lip and you should be fine.
