Sounds like you would not mind doing it-a 10 sow farrowing barn turned a few times a year-and feed out the pigs-you could probably sell a pig that is outdoor raised for $100 more direct to friends and neighbors and build a niche market-if you enjoy it -a lot of times it will work-it might not produce much profit but you can probably make use of things that wouldn't get used.
You could always start small-10 20 head and see if it is something to keep building

There is still money to be made in hogs but like Garvo said, start with a few and see what happens.

Keep your inputs low, find a niche and roll with it. Sell heritage feeder hogs, roasters and butchers. If you have the means and time cut out the middle man and butcher yourself.

Unless you have barns that are paid for and are given free hog feed the days of raising hogs, taking them to market and being profitable are over.
