Subject: RE: Watch the first link all about bees, I could not stop watching it when I found it

North Mississippi Delta / Alabama Gulf Coast
Jim Dandy

One time I had tens of thousands of bees spend three days in a group of trees near my house, maybe they were in the process of moving to another location.

This is called a 'swarm'- when bees become overpopulated, the Queen will leave the hive with about half of the colony loaded with pollen and honey. The swarm is waiting on scouts to find a suitable home and resting till time to go to new hive.

Another time I was rounding up the cows to milk out in a 3 acre lot and I heard a major buzzing. Coming towards me was a 16-20 foot in diameter swarm traveling 10-15 MPH. I just stood there and they passed around me and not one bee hit me! Go bees!!!

This is probably a swarm of drone (male) bees out looking for a virgin queen that the old hive had to make after a 'swarm' has left for new ground.
Drone bees don't have a stinger and only purpose in life is to breed.
