Subject: RE: Silage for beef cows - a convert

Driftless SW Wisconsin

Actual costs to custom combine a few acres of wet corn here are nowhere near those.  There are many times the local elevator won't even take or dry anything over 25%.

The silage crew was doing several larger customers nearby and just did my 100 ft bag between larger jobs. The entire chopping and bagging was done in a few hours

The value to me of the bag of silage was far greater than what I would have netted from combining the corn and then purchasing hay.  The silage was especially valuable given the extreme winter weather last year.
