WC IL
I have a '99 Navistar 9100 I got several years ago for that purpose. M11 at 330 hp, 9 speed, air ride. Built a flatbed for it. No locking axle, have literally gotten stuck on wet grass. Pull a 32' flatbed and a 300 bushel tender trailer with it. Pulls a heavy trailer much better than a '17 F350 diesel, actually rides better as well pulling the trailer, not a horrible ride when empty and no trailer. Will turn a lot shorter than the pickup because the wheel angle is a lot more on the single axle, can back much easier into tight spots. Lot more braking power. Have hauled loads where I was grossing 55,000 (might have been overloaded a bit on the license) and got along fine. Mileage runs from 7-8 mpg.
Doesn't have all the creature comforts of the pickup, but I don't drive it nearly as many miles, either.
Wish I had done it sooner.
