Subject: RE: A question for China experts?

Wisconsin
I've seen a theory that the 1918 Spanish flu originated in Kansas, which seems plausible given the state of sanitation on small farms of the era, and the number of hogs, and people in close contact on those farms.

Chinese roadside toilet empties into the pigpen below, pig waste is flushed into the duckpond. Humans, swine and fowl are the three species that contribute to the crossbreeding of influenza virus. The toilet is not as good at transmission of a respiratory virus as a cramped hog shed, it just shows how things work in China. Look up "sewer oil" if you want to know more, and have a strong stomach. "gutter oil"
