Other than "Made in China", I'd say not a chance it breaks.

I would guess an item of this scale would have a factor of safety of 3 or 4? Where is our resident civil engineers?

I have a good friend that owns a Civil firm in Peoria. I'll ask him.

Safety factors are nice and all, but with something like a dam there are a lot of assumptions in the calculations right from the start.

You can scoff about the “made in China” aspect of this dam, but if you search a little there is some pretty interesting reading about some “made in USA” dams that have failed.

Just a couple years ago one of our local dams on the Columbia River was found to have cracked and had a couple foot bow in it. It was a major operation to get it bolted back together, and it is a small dam with an even smaller reservoir compared to Three Gorges.
