At Yellowstone, are you staying in the park or just outside it? When we were there we stayed in the park and would get up early and go see things, then go back to the lodge to rest in the afternoon awhile then go back out and look at stuff in the evenings. The crowds were more managable this way. Just realise you DONT want to drive in the park after dark due to large animals could be on the road. You dont want to hit a buffalo with your car.

Also pack stuff for a picknick lunch in the park. Often you will be miles away from a restaurant at lunchtime. There are lots of places to pull off and have a picnic with beautiful views.

the town of Jackson wy was a crowded tourist trap, but we loved the Grand Tetons and splurged on a cabin one night on a lake at the base of the mountains.
