| I was at Glacier National Park late in August a few years ago. The Red Bus rides were booked full for at least a week and I didn't stay that long. Be sure to book them at least a few weeks before you plan to ride them. Driving the Going to the Sun Road is tough and the driver only gets to see pavement, nothing away from the road. When I was there there were also free buses on that road and the view from the right font seat was superb for me.
There are many miles of hiking trails in Glacier park, and there are horses that can be hired to do those trails.
Late in August many of the small birds had already left. I did get to scrape frost of my truck's windshield mornings in the east side campground in the park.
