envy your use of time. did all the trips with our kids when they were young, up until they were 16 or 17, after that they were too busy with their own things. Never more than 2 weeks at a time, however. About as much as the adults could take away from work and home and kids would start getting a little owlly too. But Yellowstone is NOT a tourist trap, just ALOT of people especially during the summer months. When you get older and kids are gone make sure you put it on your bucket list to do in the fall. Stop in Cody WY if get chance at the Museum there. Badlands lots of desolate scenery but kids can run around and blow off some energy; probably will be REALLY HOT. Stop at Wall, SD yes a tourist trap but kids will have fun. Hill City in the Black Hills is a good stop--dinosaur museum. Can't miss Mt. Rushmore or Crazy Horse. Wind Cave at Custer and the buffalo herd. Thermopolis Hot Springs, WY if you get around that area. Glacier, just that entire area is worthy of a month, just realize it can get chilly even in middle of summer. Grand Tetons/Jackson Hole area lots of neat scenery just a little too upscale for our taste. Good Luck and Drive Safely. And if you ever get the chance to head out west again suggest the N.Ariz and S. Utah area. Especially Zion, Bryce, and N. Rim of Grand Canyon and just about anything else in that area.
