| We were seeding spring wheat in 2018 on ground that has been notill for 4 years. The area in the center of the section (spot where the 4 quarter sections meet) is the wettest area of the section. We seeded the corner of our quarter along with the rest of the field (and no, it was not mudded in, worked great). The corners of the other three quarters which are tilled, had water standing. Tillage does not necessarily result in ground being drier to plant. This is in NE North Dakota, which is probably 300 miles north of the top of Michigan proper. Percolation tests prove notill soils absorb more water than tilled soil, and our ditches are not full of soil this open winter. | |
