Fruita CO | That's pretty close to the situation here in the Grand Valley of the Colorado. The underlying aquifer is so salty it's unusable for irrigation or domestic water. About 50 years ago a bunch of farmers got together & started a water system, bringing good mountain water from the Grand Mesa. That system has grown to service pretty much the whole valley. Before that, a farmhouse had to have a cistern that either had GJ city water hauled in, or some would just fill them with ditch water & let the mud settle out, maybe dump some Clorox in...not the best water in the world... | |
