Depends on the water table. I'm no expert on Montana at all but I did used to live in AZ and a lot of the homes in the mountains there had very deep wells or above ground potable water tanks and had water trucked to them. It was sorta cost effective. Other wise alot of wells were 2000 feet plus to get to water, and then the water table moved alot and your well would go dry for a while especially in the summer.
