After 100 feet or so you are down in the basalt rock where they want us to get water from anyway. We can hit surface water in 20 feet but we have to go beyond that level for drinking water for residences.

The basalt is fingers off the ridges of the mountains that we live at the foothills of so the terrain nearby goes over 6,000 feet while town is at 1,500 feet.
