SCIA | Unless you seal it when you put some where else, you need to use a p trap. But, yes you have pooh getting into that p trap system.
Here, what I would do, if on a limited budget, is remove the p trap and fitting from the cast piece, get new fitting that you can attach a three inch tee to, then reduce the top to 2 inch or whatever size the p trap material is, put eighteen inches of pipe straight up then your p trap. Using a tee there allows you to cap the end of it and still have a clean out.
If you have no plumbing ability and plenty of money, then I would second the get a plumber statement.
