E.Central MN | After the power company backed out of the deal, I think the alfalfa plant worked because they were exporting the leaves as very high protein feed to Japan. I'm not sure what happened to that market, but then a few years of tough growing conditions had a negative effect on that venture. A neighbor thought it would be a good diversification to his normal corn/beans rotation and it paid good the first year or two. But when alfalfa prices locally were very high then the alfalfa plant wanted his crop, when local prices were very low they didn't want it. | |
