This is not a which was better thread.

I was reading the similarities between the 4240 vs 986 and 4440 vs 1086 in terms of PTO hp, weight and wheelbase and while there are many debates about say, 4020 vs 856, these particular 86 and 40 series models look to me as about apples to apples as one could get. Don’t know if that was by accident or design when these models were new.

It must have been quite the sight in the late 70’s looking out at the red and green farms and seeing these great tractors going full out from plowing to harvesting and everything between.

Without getting into a color war, what was your recollection of these tractors prior to the Farm recession/depression that would come - and the farmers, farms and crops being worked.
