Subject: RE: JD 4240, 4440 and IH 986, 1086

Lincoln County. NC
My Dad had a 986 he ordered sight unseen and owned for two years then traded on a 4240. I probably put as many hours on the 9 as anyone and I still blame it for the back issues I had in my 20’s and 30’s. It had 18.4x38’s with calcium and no other ballast. It had more motor than tire. The 4240 sat on 20.8’swith fliud and 6 suitcase weights. It pulled better but I think the 9 might have ran the chopper a tad better and surely on less fuel.

Edit: Neither had enough to run a 2 row chopper or 5 bottom plow the way they should be run.
