1) Yes, many years 2) Absolutely 3) No, not usually. The MRTN for my area is generally 20-30lbs more than what I apply. Below is a MRTN table using your prices for corn & N. The site shows me I should be applying between 178-203#N with the sweet spot @ 191# applied N. I have never applied that much. My normal applied N is usually in the 145-165lb range and 0.8-0.85#N/bu(this year was well under that). Full disclaimer: two of the 28 "sites" listed for my area in Indiana are from my fields. Year 1: https://talk.newagtalk.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=192540&posts=11&highlight=N-rate trial&highlightmode=1#M1408490 Year 2: https://talk.newagtalk.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=270721&posts=29&highlight=N-rate trial&highlightmode=1#M2085448 With that said, I still use the calculator to plug in my N cost vs corn price to get me a target MRTN. I then adjust from there depending on how much rain we have had, to whether the price of corn is going up or down.
