North Central Illinois
I am not as happy with red clover as most of my fellow organic producers. It's too hard to kill in the spring, without intensive tillage, and it allows the perennial weeds that I have a chance to re-establish themselves very well. Clover does provide a good N credit, but I am also happy with what I get from a cool season mix planted after wheat harvest that has a good rate of peas.

I may no till peas in the spring here, but I am going to apply poultry litter in the spring. If I can pull off this corn-soy-small -hay-hay-hay rotation, I need to apply an outside fertility source to keep from mining P and K. After alfalfa it doesn't take much N at all to grow very good corn.
