When I pulled a trailer from Michigan to Ohio the MSP advised I was legal if the following were met. No cargo. No license needed on the purchased trailer. Driver needs CDL with medical card. Truck was OK without anything other than insurance and an Ohio plate. Truck and trailer made it home without issue. A different officer probably would give a different reply.
