The size of slab you need should be directly related to the amount of feed you put up. The only part that will change is that you can make a lot taller pile on a wider slab than you can on a narrow slab, so the price per ton gets cheaper as the pad gets wider.

My shrink averages 3-4% on concrete or asphalt and 7-8% on dirt. Figure ~3% decrease in feed shrink on your tons and it will give you a payback time on the pad you build. Put a true value on the feed if you had to purchase it or what you would want if you sold it. Numbers will surprise you.
