Martinsville, Ohio | Very wise post. This is what I have seen in my son in law, Loran. He "wasn't ready for college" while in college so enlisted in the Marines right before he married my youngest. She quickly became a military mom.
He served a tour in Kuwait, a tour in Irag which damaged his back, came back and finished college in biomedicine and now works at John Glenn Space Center for NASA.
It's all worked out but he will suffer back problems the rest of his life.
None of my family went that route. I almost joined ROTC at Ohio State but thought better of it, graduated and did not serve. Neither did dad or grandpa. We are not miliitary types or family but I thank those who are.
The thing I couldn't accept is they own you. LuAnn's nephew is career Air Force and the same thing. It's worked out for him, would not for me.
The Navy hounded me for 10 years after taking the ASVAB test and scoring well. I finally had to tell them look I am a teacher with a wife and two kids and I am not interested. Two entirely different lifestyles.
