Because it takes much more management to reduce tillage, so they till, and in the short run it wont matter. For those of you who insist tillage is the answer I will say this; if you have any runoff from your farm then you have been contributing to the huge problem of water polution in our nations water system. This is not sustainable and we will be forced to change and abide by strict rules governing the way we farm if we dont do it on our own first. It is not a matter of if, but when. In life some things can be wrong simply because morally they are wrong while not so economically. Remember too, ownership of land is really only lifetime tenancy and land is not ours to destroy or waste. So maybe the original post is about the moral issue as much as anything.
