Faunsdale, AL | Mark, the fact is there's not a lot of "reserve" on a dairy cow that's milking at peak or near peak production. Any serious infection or lameness and she is in trouble.
Just to get a feel for the business, take a beef cow/calf herd, manage them in confinement, what kind of results do you think you would have?
