E.Central MN | Price will determine who does without. It could be ethanol, could be HFCS, maybe poultry or hogs will cut back, maybe exports will stop. One problem could be if speculators drive the prices higher than are needed to ration supplies, sound familiar. I could see a scenerio where the govt puts pressure on the commodity futures exchange to try and keep that from happening and that crashes prices. This drought may be a trainwreck in the making, but its a slow motion trainwreck. The markets are fairly efficient at dealing with those kinds of events when the govt stays out of it. I wouldn't want to be in your position of having to source huge amounts of grain in this situation, it could make for some sleepless nights. | |
