I change the oil on my '08 duramax every 10,000 miles. I use an amsoil EaO52 oil filter and use Mobil 1 5w-40 synthetic oil. I've done oil tests to determine that this is okay and infact they keep telling me to go more miles everytime but 10,000 is an easy number to remember.
