I believe you are right that Pioneer helped in the development of Herculex. I can't remember if Mycogen was already owned by Dow at that time though. I think most people are forgetting that Pioneer and Ciba helped with the development of the RR soybean gene as well. I would also like to point out that not every trat that comes to market was originated by the company doing the marketing. If I remember correctly, the drought gene that Monsanto is working with was aquired when they purchased a smaller biotech company.
