Could probably add BASF as well. You could also include a bunch of land grant universities such as Texas A&M or Kansas State.

I thought those guys were wholly owned subsidiaries?

"BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) - The world's largest seed company has pledged $1 million over five years to South Dakota State University to create a new Ph.D. fellowship program focused on plant breeding.

Representatives from St. Louis-based Monsanto Co. and SDSU announced the agreement Thursday on the Brookings campus.

The company set a goal last year to double yields in corn, cotton and soybeans by 2030 from what they were in 2000, while reducing by one-third the water and energy requirements.

Monsanto Chief Technology Officer Robert Fraley said the company needs well-trained researchers and breeders in research and development to make that happen.

SDSU said the joint program in plant breeding will be ready to take its first students this fall.
