EC IL | If there was any interior remodel work done in the 80’s there may be plastic behind the drywall. Make a point to remove that drywall and plastic or the wall will hold moisture and rot.
Look at your construction picture closely. If your exterior sheathing is that black pressed cardboard stuff, I would not remove the siding unless you are changing that black pressboard out for ZIP sheathing system. Just catching the debris from even the edge of a tornado will blow through the walls if there isn’t some type of metal or thick wood siding on the outside of that black pressboard. Most homes here built in the 50’s and 60’s used that pressboard. Stiff siding and interior plaster walls are structural components when that black pressboard is thrown into the equation. | |
