Wheat straw is slow to decompose, without some nitrogen, is my understanding. Plant something that fixes nitrogen will help in the process. IIRC the 'critters' that help the decomposing like a ratio of 24 to 1 (carbon to nitrogen). Soybean straw is around 30 to 1, alfalfa hay 25 to 1 and wheat straw 60 to 1. I'm going of the top of my head here and the grass is light, so if I'm wrong, go ahead and correct me.
