step 1  put a 6' tall chicken wire fence around it.  
step 2 place 12 egg laying chickens in it
step 3 place all yard and kitchen waste in it for three years.  bagged grass, dead leaves, gutter clean out, fruit cores, scraps, pulled weeds, discarded potted plants.
 let them fertilize, scratch & mulch and eat the brome til your garden is ready to plant.
enjoy some fresh eggs in the meantime.
