Wisconsin | There's more than one way to skin a cat. A vapor barrier on the inside is one way. Real world, the vapor barrier leaks more moisture in the air leaks than permeates through a tight house. Air sealed drywall on the inside so there are not massive drafts through the wall is another perfectly functional way to build a wall in the vast majority of the continental US. Buildings that get in trouble have multiple things wrong, like synthetic stucco with terrible window detailing, foam outside, plastic inside.
So, technically there are houses that are so leaky AND humid, where a housewrap will contribute to moisture issues. And there are houses with such long cold winters and high humidity inside that a vapor barrier will work better than air tight drywall, but the vapor barrier has to be sealed at penetrations to do much good also. | |
