I think you hit it dead on. In no-till nutrients have to be thought of differently. They recycle throught the system slower- not a bad thing, just the way it is. So put the nutrients where the roots can get it. As always there are exceptions- ie soybeans have a pretty good ability to pull nutrients off the soil surface.
