Kingston,Mi | I had both hands done about 30 years ago, they were done a couple a months apart. The surgeon did them with a scope, 2 stitches to close each of the incisions plus a bandaid. Off work for a week and wore a hand brace as needed. I was doing engineering drafting and dropping my pencil because could not sense the grip pressure. As others have said, I wish I had done it sooner. The surgery with the scope was fast, nearly pain free and I healed faster than the carpal tunnel surgery my mother had where they went thru the back of the wrist. The second surgery went well enough that I fed the several head of feeders before the help arrived after supper to feed.
When this problem first became serious, I tried physical therapy for a couple of months. When it didn't solve the problem, the family doctor scheduled a nerve specialist who confirmed the nerves were being damaged with the carpal tunnel. The surgery was preformed under general anesthesia and I watched the probe on a TV monitor.
