EC SoDak | My gut tells me that those of us out here, we are generalized with a broad paint brush. As in, a belief that all this area was pulled out of wheat and pasture post 2000. While yes, many acres were, there have been major C&B acres in play for a very long time.
The interesting dynamic is so many of those new crop acres were owned very very cheap. So while many in the Midwest say “they need to go back to wheat and pasture,” I’m not sure they will or need to. At least, that’s what a few folks west of me have said on this forum. It’ll likely be a genetics vs moisture deal, but a lot of big farms have been set up out there and once you have the buildings, bins, equipment, not that easy just to go back. The next gens since ground was pulled out are now taking over and all they’ve really known is row cropping. Haha | |
