Subject: Improving tilth, fertility and OM on a small piece of ground

My wife and I have decided that when we "retire", hopefully in about 3 years we are going to finally plant a garden. The piece of ground, about 50'x50', here in southeast Nebraska is currently in our backyard and has mostly brome growing on it. Hastings silt loam, pretty average dirt. I plan to moldboard plow it in a few weeks and then start the process. Let me say from the start, that I have little to no access to manure, but do have wheat straw. How would you proceed from here? Have thought about sweet clover, tillage radish and rye. Again this is about a three-year plan.
