Subject: RE: Farmland Taxes

NE
He's probably from Nebraska, that looks like our Nebraska rates. I have taxes ranging from $46/acre for hilly rocky pasture ground that doesn't even raise good grass to $102/ac. for irrigated bottom ground. $87/acre for Irrigated hilly clay ground. Around $60/acre catches most of the cropped dryland. We even pay the $20/acre minimum for waste land that has no possibility of ever being farmed, like the bottom of a creek channel. NO paved roads, some aren't even gravel. 75% of our property tax goes to the school in this district and they have been pushing for another new one for the last 5 years. Our state funding is cut down to almost zero since our land is valuated so high. Bond issues coming up for a new fire station and a new jail. It's a mess and only getting worse. Oh, forgot to mention, last legislative session there was a push to tax irrigation water, ONLY irrigation water. With an average amount of water applied it would have taxed us an ADDITIONAL $200/acre. The culture here is all about extracting as much as you can from the landowners. It's even brought up at meetings how they "don't feel sorry" for people sitting on several million dollars worth of farmland.
