| You're very right about cops being skilled at tricking people into giving up their rights..... but in this case (as described) they did not consent to any search, and therefore their rights were violated. They can't "take someone downtown and get a warrant" just because they are suspicious, as that would be a violation of their rights.
So moral of the story is people shouldn't give in to intimidation by the police or any government official - everybody should know their rights and not allow government to violate them. And when the government does violate people's rights, the government should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Unfortunately that's easier said than done. | |
