| You are correct about the CDL drivers NOT being .04 no matter what they are driving. This was taken directly from the 2016 Illinois CDL study guide. Not sure about other states though..
1.12.1 — Alcohol/Drug Regulations and Disqualifications
Illinois law provides that drivers operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) or a non-commercial motor vehicle (non- CMV) on highways have impliedly consented to submit to chemical tests to determine blood-alcohol concentration (BAC). A school bus driver may not operate a school bus with a BAC of more than .00. A CDL holder may not operate a commercial vehicle with a BAC of .04 or more. A school bus driver or a CDL holder may not drive any other vehicle with a BAC of .08 or more. | |
