| I am coming at this as the SIL who works in the corporate world, so the exact opposite of you. My take is you have to get out of the cattle business and increase your grain if you want free time with the family. I see my FIL farming 2500 acres and raising enough beef and pork for the families(about 3-5 beef and 4-6 pigs a year) with his brother and there is plenty of downtime to be had. He takes several very nice vacations every year, travels the world and does whatever he wants. Yes, he is more exposed in a down grain market but they way he farms, which is extremely frugal after lessons of the 80's he can afford to do it.
Figure it out now so you don't miss your kids growing up. If you wait too long they will be down the road and you will have missed out. | |
