This should have been dealt with in the offer and acceptance between the two parties.
If you verbally told them they could have a while to remove their belongings, your definition of a while and their definition of a while is evidently two different periods of time.
A couple of words of wisdom always have definite time periods in every aspect of a contract when buying or selling.
