Subject: We do that.

Masonville, Iowa
Sprout,

We have been running a Phillips harrow behind the manure tanks for the past three falls. If you wait a week and run over the ground in the fall, the harrow will leave the ground reasonably level. We try to run the harrow over the ground again a couple weeks before planting in the spring. Has been working great on bean ground. A little tougher in corn on corn because the harrow leaves stalkes lying perpendicular to the rows and will plug up the row cleaners. We are going to get the stalks in smaller pieces this fall and try corn on corn again.
Like the harrow in general, but do have issues with it windrowing in some cases. It also fluffs up residue and in dry springs you'd better not run the harrow just prior to planting or you will go crazy with all the plugging by the row cleaners!
